Almost every day I find the Independent’s front page absolutely great. It catches the attention without being rude nor obvious, and usually it uses high quality pictures. Today’s front page is no exception.
And yes, today’s news are all about the Democrats gaining majority in the American Congress and Senate. After an extreme campaign, which reached unexpected (at least by me) peaks of bad taste, Americans have finally realised they needed to change something. First victim of the Republican defeat is Donald Rumsfeld (Defence Secretary), who once declared “Stuff happens” (or was it “Shit happens”?), inspiring British writer David Hare to compose a satirical play (2004) on the reasons which have led to the war in Iraq. Excellent play, I couldn’t help laughing, and at the same time being saddened by what I was listening to.
